Constructed in 1958, the existing Old Barrie Road underpass bridge is a four-span hybrid structure consisting of a concrete voided slab encasing simply-supported precast concrete girders that carries four (4) lanes of traffic over Highway 11. Based on the approved Preliminary Design Study and associated Transportation Environmental Study Report (2016), the existing bridge is to be replaced with a new wider bridge to accommodate three (3) lanes of traffic in each direction, as well as a multi-use pathway on the south side of the bridge.
